Gas at my local Marathon was 2.68 yesterday.

Funny, rightists have been blaming Obama for high gas prices
(apparently they don't consider Chinese demand relevant) but I don't
see them in here thanking him for bringing them back down.

Return of the $3 Gallon? U.S Gas Prices Are Falling Fast

<http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-09-17/u-dot-s-dot-gas-price-falling-fast-time-for-the-return-of-the-3-gallon>

This all starts with the price of oil, which makes up 66 percent of
the cost of a gallon of regular gasoline. International crude prices
have fallen 16 percent since the end of June, and U.S. prices have
dropped more than 11 percent. Different parts of the country use
different sources of oil to make gasoline. Most imported blends of
light, sweet crude no longer come into the U.S. Gulf Coast, by far the
biggest refinery base in the U.S.

Refiners are also getting ready to switch to the winter blend of
gasoline, which is cheaper to produce but fetches lower prices. Over
the last three years, the price of gasoline from September to November
has fallen by an average of more than 30¢ a gallon. If that trend
continues in 2014, it could put prices in some parts of the country
below $3.

Unexpected events could always shake the oil marked. With the U.S. and
its allies planning to step up attacks on ISIS this fall, oil prices
could certainly spike by the end of the year. As long as U.S.
production keeps rising, however, it should help keep prices in check.

You really should have read the paragraph right above your reply
before saying that.

While it's true that the global economy is weak, demand isn't down,
it's just not growing as fast. The US is by far the biggest consumer
of oil, and demand here is certainly not down. Already sales of gas
guzzlers is starting to climb.

The bigger issue affecting global oil prices is North American
production. The Saudis don't seem interested in cutting production so
either they need the cash badly enough to keep pushing or some behind
the scenes political work is going on so they're helping beat up on
Russia.

US-EU sanctions are helping China. Putin's bargaining position has
gotten so weak that they were able to beat him down well below his
asking price for his gas. And since they've locked those deals in,
he's obligated to provide that gas at that price in those quantities
even if energy goes through the roof a few years down the line.

You really should have read the paragraph right above
We can't act to cut Chinese
imports (e.g., impose tariffs) as they could dump our debt in
retaliation.
Wrong.

We can and have done so already:

http://www.dunntireblog.com/import-tariffs-impact-tire-pricing

Tariff on Chinese Tires

Chinese tiresIn 2009, the Obama Administration implemented a steep
tariff on imports of Chinese-made tires. The tire tariff was structured
with a 35 percent duty the first year, 30 percent the second and 25
percent the third. This is in addition to the 4% base tariff. The
intent of this regulation was to protect American jobs and save the tire
manufacturing industry in the US. According to Market Watch “U.S.
imports of Chinese tires rose from 14.6 million in 2004 to 46 million in
2008, accounting for about one-sixth of the U.S. market. Four U.S. tire
plants have closed in the past two years (2007-2008) and more than 5,000
workers have lost their jobs.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/11/business/global/us-sets-tariffs-on-chinese-solar-panels.html?_r=0

The Commerce Department issued its final ruling Wednesday in a
long-simmering trade dispute with China, imposing tariffs ranging from
about 24 to nearly 36 percent on most solar panels imported from the
country.

I had suspected that the price had been tampered with to ensure cheap
gasoline on election day, then it would go back up. But the Saudis are
flooding the market with cheap oil in an attempt to damage the Iranian
and Russian economies, something they can afford but the others can't.
But that oil still must refined, and you may be correct about a
shrinking economy since American refineries appear to have excess
capacity at the moment.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. When a Republican is in
office and gas prices go down, it's due to his intelligent and far
seeing energy policy. When the same thing happens with a Dem in
office it's "market manipulation" The only manipulation going on is
the explosion in shale drilling and Canada's expanding bitumen
production.

There's a difference between shrinking economies and slowed growth
rates. The US economy is far from shrinking and the growth is
acceleration. China is still seeing high growth but the rates have
slowed from near 10% to less than 8%. That's still a lot of growth
but it's been dropping. Same is true worldwide. The only major
economies in recession right now are Japan and possibly Russia.
Everybody else is just growing much slower than usual.

American refineries have excess capacity because Americans are using
less gas. They've spent the last few years buying more efficient cars
and being more efficient in how they use them.

But now gas is going down due to oil and refined product gluts, gas
guzzling truck and SUV sales are on the rise again.

<http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/04/business/automakers-report-us-sales-for-october-2014.html?_r=0>
"Falling gas prices accelerated American car buyers’ increasing love
affair with trucks and sport utility vehicles last month. And a big
beneficiary was Chrysler, whose Jeep and Ram pickup brands continued
their surge, leading the automaker to double-digit sales gains even as
its crosstown rivals General Motors and Ford Motor fell flat."

unilaterally made and deleted laws in order to fool people before his
election. He used the IRS to go after political opponents before his

There is NO comparison. This load of shit you keep peddling that somehow

murder.

well stay home as attend Congress."

http://www.processingmagazine.com/articles/126920-us-refiners-boost-capacity-of-existing-facilities

Although the United States has not built a large refinery for decades,
existing processing facilities are constantly expanding their capacity
in a bid to utilize the constantly increasing fuel production.
Construction of major facilities is partly impossible because of tight
environmental regulations, so refiners are either building small, highly
specialized plants, or are looking for ways to adapt their existing
refineries to higher output rates and production lines, the Wall Street
Journal reported this week.

According to data gathered by the news service and consultancy IHS, U.S.
refineries are projected to add capacity of more than 400,000 barrels of
oil per day to operational facilities through 2018. This is roughly the
capacity that a major new refinery would have, according to the news
source. Capacity expansion is on the agenda for a number of large
companies, including Valero Energy and Marathon Petroleum Corporation.

However, in both cases your opinion is totally irrelevant. You have no
justification for thinking that the price should be lower and there is
nobody with the power to make those prices lower. Prices are driven by the
market. There is no such thing as an absolute value for anything. No one has
the right to have prices set according to their own misguided opinions of
what something is worth. If you think gas is too expensive, then stop buying
gas. If you think the price of milk is too high then stop buying milk.
Nobody forces you to purchase either product and it is possible to live
without either one. But save your breath before you start ranting at farmers
for the price of milk being higher than what you think it is worth and if
you even think that the companies that produce gas are interested in your
opinion you are out of touch with reality.

Funny, rightists have been blaming Obama for high gas prices
(apparently they don't consider Chinese demand relevant) but I don't
see them in here thanking him for bringing them back down.
$2.74 here.
I neither blame nor credit the POTUS for gas prices, ever.
But if I did, I would never thank anyone for $2.74/gal. That's extremely
high.
So, how are MILK prices in your neck of the woods? It's more than gas
here, even though it's easier to produce.
A gallon of milk around here is about a buck more than a gallon of gas.
Both prices are obscene.
However, in both cases your opinion is totally irrelevant.
Not to me, it isn't.
Yours is, however.
Post by Kirby Grant
You have no
justification for thinking that the price should be lower and there is
nobody with the power to make those prices lower.
Nothing you just typed has any relevance to the discussion. I've said
nothing about farmers or petroleum companies.
I didn't say the prices were too expensive. I said they are obscene. I
can still afford those products when I need them.
And if you think *anyone* is interested in your opinion, you are further
out of touch with reality than previously thought.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That doesn't make me a liar, Edith, it makes me
not clairvoyant. Anyway, that statement stands. The Republicans did
support the relief bill (800+ Obama stimulus).

It was Obamacare that turned the tide for them in November 2010 and my
comment above was from before Obamacare was introduced. In fact, my
comment above was from before Obama was President.

It's almost 80 cents in California.

Farmers don't set milk prices.
Yet they produce that milk and sell it at market rates upon which
dairy processors base their wholesale rates. The market sets it's own
specific retail rate but all of it goes back to what the farmer has to
get to make his milk profitable.

Affordable means whether or not there's room in your budget for the
purchase. If you can buy milk, that means you can "afford" it. It
may be expensive, it may be very expensive, the price may in fact be
"obscene" which I would define as "unaffordable".

Anyway, $4 gal milk isn't expensive to me but it isn't cheap either.
that's about 3 to 4 times the price per ounce of soda drinks.

$10 milk would be very expensive, perhaps obscene. But $4 milk is
cheap. Cheaper than it was 35 years ago (inflation adjusted).

It's entirely relevant. I
We can't act to cut Chinese
imports (e.g., impose tariffs) as they could dump our debt in
retaliation.
Wrong.

We can and have done so already:

http://www.dunntireblog.com/import-tariffs-impact-tire-pricing

Tariff on Chinese Tires

Chinese tiresIn 2009, the Obama Administration implemented a steep
tariff on imports of Chinese-made tires. The tire tariff was structured
with a 35 percent duty the first year, 30 percent the second and 25
percent the third. This is in addition to the 4% base tariff. The
intent of this regulation was to protect American jobs and save the tire
manufacturing industry in the US. According to Market Watch “U.S.
imports of Chinese tires rose from 14.6 million in 2004 to 46 million in
2008, accounting for about one-sixth of the U.S. market. Four U.S. tire
plants have closed in the past two years (2007-2008) and more than 5,000
workers have lost their jobs.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/11/business/global/us-sets-tariffs-on-chinese-solar-panels.html?_r=0

The Commerce Department issued its final ruling Wednesday in a
long-simmering trade dispute with China, imposing tariffs ranging from
about 24 to nearly 36 percent on most solar panels imported from the
country.

Gas at my local Marathon was 2.68 yesterday.
Funny, rightists have been blaming Obama for high gas prices
(apparently they don't consider Chinese demand relevant) but I don't
see them in here thanking him for bringing them back down.
You have no
justification for thinking that the price should be lower and there is
nobody with the power to make those prices lower. Prices are driven by the
market. There is no such thing as an absolute value for anything. No one has
the right to have prices set according to their own misguided opinions
And yet you voted for a nigger who thinks he does, you stupid FUCK.

Goddamn you people are so fucking stupid it's unbelievable.

Why would gas go down and milk go up? When energy to produce and

should drop. Why didn't MILK become cheaper?

Could it be regulation, and growth of the Government and EPA and lawyers.

I think that's just a plus.

The two main factors on falling oil are fracking and bitumen sands.
Both have been ongoing for quite a while. The other is slowed demand
in the wake of the 2007 recession.

I don't think anybody thought back when Putin invaded Georgia, "Hey,
let's wreck the economy and at the same time start drilling for oil
again so we can beat Putin's ass the next time he invades some place!"

Not that bad, really. 1979 11.3, 1980 13.5, 1981 10.3 then it settled
down into relatively stable single digits.
http://www.usinflationcalculator.com/inflation/historical-inflation-rates/
In 1973 just before the embargo I was working at an Exxon and our
regular was 39.9 which works out to $2.14. The reason I recall the
price is because it was the cheapest major gas price around. Was
owned by a Cuban emigree family.
http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl?cost1=.40&year1=1973&year2=2014
And in 1962 gas was 19.9 cents, the gas station attendant would clean
your windshield and check your oil and tires for free, and you'd get a
free glass or ice scraper with every tankful. But your car needed a
major tuneup every 10,000 miles, and if it lasted 100,000 miles it was a
miracle. None of which has much to do with the way things are now. So
what's your point.
Of course oil is a lot costlier to get these days. Punching a hole in
Oklahoma prairie and watching a gusher blow is a lot cheaper than
horizontal drilling through shale to frack it.
Couldn't find the build price but the Deepwater Horizon is insured for
over half a billion, is leased for half a million a day and costs
another half million a day to operate.

Don't remember it that cheap. In my hometown the cheapest I remember
is the mid twenties but on 1962 I would have been 7 or 8 so probably
wasn't paying that much attention.

My mom built a set of bone china including serving dishes from gas
bought at a local Chevron in 1970.

Point was that gas hasn't really gone up much more than inflation over
time especially when you consider how much more it costs to get out of
the ground these days which bit you snipped.

$2.74 here.
I neither blame nor credit the POTUS for gas prices, ever.
But if I did, I would never thank anyone for $2.74/gal. That's extremely
high.
So, how are MILK prices in your neck of the woods? It's more than gas

Actually milk is harder to produce and handle because it's perishable.

That said, I can get store brand whole gallons for under $4. The
local premium brand, Mayfield, runs 5 to 6 depending on the store.

The price of bread continues to shock me. Better brands and specialty
whole grains like Arnold's can be over $3 but most run about 2.50 -
2.90. Store brands are usually under $2 but they all taste like
nothing and are full of air and dry and stale even on delivery day.

I don't buy white bread so I couldn't tell you what it costs.

Being perishable doesn't make it harder to produce. It just means you
need to use it before it goes sour. With modern refrigeration,
pasteurization, etc. milk can stay good for much longer than it did half
a century ago. Producing milk couldn't be easier. Every female mammal
has the necessary equipment. Get a cow, let it calve, put alfalfa in
one end, and collect the milk from the spigots. No exploring, drilling,
or billion dollar refineries are needed. There are little family
dairies scattered all across the nation. Even you could start up a
dairy if you really wanted to. You can't say that about oil companies.

Of course perishability makes it harder to produce, or trickier
anyway. Wait, by "produce" I mean "get to market". Is that what you
mean or are you talking "get out of the udder"?

That said, I've rethought the supply chain and realize that milk does
require much less tech to produce. Oil is definitely a higher level
of technology. That said, perishability introduces a supply chain
kink oil doesn't have. You don't see Exxon throwing away crude
because it's two weeks old.

Sure. I'll just step out in my backyard and start raising cows.

Either business requires capitalization.

The scarcity of easy to drill oil may well have made it enough more
difficult to get at and refining tech complex enough that I should
change my opinion about it.

Exactly, and yet partisans continue to do just that. If a Rep is in
office and gas goes down, rightists claim it's because of his energy
policy. When a Dem is in, it's because some mysterious force is
manipulating gas prices for electoral reasons.

Leftists behave the same way in reverse.

Not compared to the over $4 a gallon it reached here in Georgia in the
summer of 2008. And btw, when gas prices collapsed that fall, it was
common to hear folks saying BushCo Inc. was manipulating gas prices
down trying to elect McCain/Palin. The fact of the matter was the
economic collapse had become widespread enough to damage consumer
confidence and cut demand.

Marathon was 2.64 this morning.

I remember when prices spiked 6-7 years ago. I told people that they
will pump prices to $4 and then everyone will think it's a great bargain
when it gets to $3, when it should be about $1.50.

I live in NY, but I don't buy gas here. It's hovering around $3 at the
local pumps. I head across the border to NJ and get it for $2.74.
If I didn't live at the PA/NJ border, I would've left NY years ago.

Shouldn't be 1.50. Cost too much to get out of the ground. Fifty
years ago Texans were still conventional drilling and standing back to
keep the gusher from blasting their head off. The easy oil is all
gone pretty much everywhere except Russia. That's their advantage.
Their inefficient and low tech development systems have left them
underutilizing their reserves. My god! They own half of Asia and
half the arctic! There are vast quantities of easy to pump oil in
eastern Siberia they've already found but can't get out of the ground.
No infrastructure. No power grid, rail or pipelines, not even
highways.

Chattanoogans used to cross the border into Ga for the same reason.
But over the past decade, the tax difference has reversed and now it's
cheaper there than here. When I make a trip to TN, I always top off

Return of the $3 Gallon? U.S Gas Prices Are Falling Fast
<http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-09-17/u-dot-s-dot-gas-price-falling-fast-time-for-the-return-of-the-3-gallon>
Yesterday, gas was available where I Live at $2.60/gallon.

Return of the $3 Gallon? U.S Gas Prices Are Falling Fast

dropped more than 11 percent. Different parts of the country use

light, sweet crude no longer come into the U.S.

A former Hartville resident has been sentenced to 14 years in
federal prison for having child pornography and sexual involvement
with minors, according to a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s office
in Cleveland.
Mark. A. Steffee, 43, was arrested on March 27, 2013, in the Parma
area after police said he solicited a 14-year-old girl to make adult
movies. Police say he went to Parma to pick up the girl, but was met
instead by police and agents with the Ohio Internet Crimes Against
Children Task Force.
Investigators later discovered child pornography on his computer
and, according to court records, Steffee later disclosed having a
sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl in 2005.
Steffee was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in
Cleveland. He pleaded guilty in February to federal charges of having
child pornography and coercion or enticement of a female
Steffee had kept his behavior hidden from his family for years,
accepted responsibility for his actions and underwent intensive
counseling to better understand his problem, his attorney said in
pre-sentencing court filings.

Wow, nice. I saw it at 2.72 here and thought that was really low.
Of course, I was in California last week and prices had dropped down to
around 3.10, which is awfully low considering the taxes.

Nothing new about that.
Even though the Memphis refinery now operated by Valero has had an
immaculate record in regards to safety and pollution ever since the
pipeline from Memphis to the Gulf was completed.
Another funny bit of trivial info: The Valero gas stations here are
higher priced than any of the other brands. And all brands in this
area are produced by that refinery. Doesn't matter if it's BP, Exxon,
Marathon, Citgo etc. The refinery produces them all per the brands
individual specs. Which is how most refineries work since they are
simply contractors providing a service to the oil companies.

When I worked in the industry many years ago, all the gas in the
pipeline was the same. I worked less than a mile from a regional
"tank farm". My delivery guy told me they send regular unleaded
through the pipes. The grade difference was due to additives mixed
into at the tanks but the refinery only had to produce the one grade.

Yesterday, gas was available where I Live at $2.60/gallon.
What was the price when you marched up to the polling places to vote
for the bastards that made $3+ possible, Hartung?
And Obama policy lost at the voting booth two weeks ago.

Which proves a point I've often made. Seems the Republicans are in
power usually when the economy tanks. They're almost always in power
for the big economic tanks. So the public gets mad, puts the Dems in
office and about the time the economy has healed, the Reps get back
into power and restart the cycle.

Let's bookmark and archive this as your ignominious return to the
political groups this mid term election year with the predictable
anti-Republican, wildly hyperbolic and mendacious rhetoric.

Let's also recall that during the ensuing month you would play at being
a conservative, play at taking a few shots at Dems, and generally work
both sides of the street - oft times simultaneously - in your desperate
attempt to assault Republicans and influence swing state and independent
voters.

Let's remind anyone who regularly reads you that you are a total fraud,
a political imposter, and a paid Democrat shill.

Let's cement that there is no honesty in you, that any and all things
you say are instantaneously suspect, and that your agenda is the
destruction of all things even remotely conservative.

Let's share this with general readership, secure in the knowledge that
they are far less easily fooled than you and your cynically manipulative
Dem handlers had ever believed.

Let's cite this mid term swing election as proof that no one is fooled,
cajoled, or herded by your absurd "both ends against the middle "
schtick here.

Let's write your Usenet epitaph as that of a crude, evil, and amoral
manipulator and a person of little or no credibility under even
apolitical circumstances.

Let's flush and be done with you - subhuman Dem turd.

Oh, please, Yoorghis, get over it already will you? Everything isn't
Washington's fault and the only responsibility Obama has for cheap gas
now is that he hasn't restricted fracking and didn't leave the ban on
gulf drilling. The result has been increased production in the US and
that's been the single biggest supply factor.

If you want the truth, that fracking started while Bush was in office.
Most of the permits currently in use for wells and well development
were issued years ago.

Funny, rightists have been
We can't act to cut Chinese
imports (e.g., impose tariffs) as they could dump our debt in
retaliation.

That's because it coming down in spite of your nigger, you stupid lying
motherfucker.

And if gas prices were going up you'd find a way to praise your fucking

Because you're an insulting to the intelligence goddamned LIAR.

And your goddamned lying is destroying my country, you piece of shit
motherfucker.

Now go to goddamn hell where you belong.
