Discussion:
Why Does The Left HATE Pat Robertson So Much?

The left has marked him for destruction for some reason. Extremist,
left-wing groups dedicate themselves to monitoring his every utterance in
the hopes of scandalizing something he has said. What is it about Pat
Roberson that scares the left so much? Simple. Pat Robertson is a
self-proclaimed Christian who dares to believe in the bible. A bible replete
with examples of God taking out his wrath on individuals and societies that
turn their back on him or go against him. Imagine. A guy who holds no public
office, but simply states his opinions on TV, is being monitored by leftist
groups and when they think they've got something on him they call up the
media outlets and it makes the national news.

Among the many other sins of Pat Roberson as detailed by the smarmy reporter
on CNN last night was gasp...Robertson's contention that activist judges are
a graver threat to the US than even terrorists. Who wouldn't agree that a
judiciary that is undermining the very foundations of our constitution is a
graver threat than any outside force? Why would such a contention be seen as
such an affront to CNN? Why are liberals so terrified of Pat Robertson?

Yet the left jumped through hoops defending Ward Churchill's opinions.

Both individuals look to be about equal on the extreme meter
concerning their positions.
Funny thing about it is if it weren't for the left bitching about him
all the time I would rarely hear anything at all about Robertson.

Xtian Republicans believe that they MUST have an enemy and
right now the enemy that they have invented is Democrats.
There isn't any rational for their beliefs. Just like there
is no rational reason for them to think that their religion
is based on truth.

While it is difficult to have "reverence" for hateful, bigoted, racist,
science-denying fools whose worldview is shaped by fairy tales about bronze
age goat herders running around in bathrobes, the term "Xtian" is merely
shorthand for all of the myriad squabbling religious sects who fall under
the rubric of "Christianity." We've lost track of them all, and frankly, we
couldn't give two sh1ts about it.

It is through your projection of blustering, divisive, neo-fascist hatred
that you perceive the Democrats to be in need of an enemy. You and your
neocon cheerleaders have dug yourselves into an ideological pit. We find it
amusing to stand at the edge of that pit to point at you and laugh. You
really are a self-parody.

Thanks for the laugh, Mikey. I'd plonk you; but you're too hilarious.

Your knowledge of the Bible is a total joke Flannigan. As I expected
the Bible exists to you only for pulling passages out of context and
using to support your extreme right wing position. With that kind of
attitude you will undoubtedly burn in hell just like Pat Robertson.

== What is so
amazing about a Christian evangelist who believes in the bible? Why
does
that drive liberals crazy?

I live in hampton roads and Pat Robertson has said enough idiotic
things to convince me that
he is no 'man of god', but a lunatic.

Pat Robertson is a crazed hateful LOON. No normal person would ever
defend him and his lying hypocrisy.
Yet the left jumped through hoops defending Ward Churchill's opinions.
Both individuals look to be about equal on the extreme meter
concerning their positions.
Funny thing about it is if it weren't for the left bitching about him
all the time I would rarely hear anything at all about Robertson.
Try pulling your head out of your ass and read newspapers and watch TV
some time. Robertsons crazed lunacy is so strange that just about
EVERY newspaper and TV outlet has to report it.
Indeed they report how the left is so pissed off at his little
opinions. You fuckers have a real problem with different opinions
don't you?
Why do ya'll get so upset over an opinion? Seems you dont want anyone
to have one yes?

The left-wing attack on Pat Robertson is just a veiled attack against
Christians in general. That's why they spend so much time and energy
monitoring every utterance of a private citizen who holds no public office,

You've described the situation correctly. I just don't
understand why you are complaining. It isn't as if there is
anything special about the xtian religion as compared to any
other religion. Xtians conduct attacks against other
religions all the time, why should xtians be exempt from
criticism?

Criticism is one thing. But marking someone to be monitored by left-wing
advocacy groups for every utterance that can used against them, and then
taking it a step further and likening an attempt to explain current events
based on the bible and someone like the head of Iran who hoped for Sharon's
death is quite another. It indicates a paranoid fear and willingness to
conduct character assignation that makes me question why the hell the left
is so terrified of Christians.

And it lends just another lie to the idea that the left is all about
tolerance, respect for others opinions, and free speech.

Get them to stop that and the criticism will drop right off.

Excuse me, but how is Pat Roberson expressing his opinions forcing anything
on you? Because the left doesn't like what he says they've mounted a
concerted attempt to force him off the air. What next, you going to start
raiding church services?

The only people that I see trying to force moral beliefs on anyone is
liberals. You want to use the force of government to force the curricula in
public schools regardless of what school boards, the parents or the local
government or community wants. You take a moral issue like abortion and
force the law far beyond Roe v Wade to include third trimester abortions
through court decree. You want to force the public to accept a redefinition
of marriage.

I find it remarkable that what you want to force is okay, while anyone who
opposes or disagrees with you is the one doing the forcing.

It borders on deranged.

It borders on deranged.
Your vision is a bit narrow don't you think? Pat Robertson
is just one bad apple in a whole crate of other bad apples.
The xtians try to invade our public schools with xtian
prayers, xtian bible studies, xtian views of science and
xtian viewpoints about sex education and yet no one is
supposed to be disturbed about such offensive pursuits. Did
it escape your notice that the previous school board in
Dover, PA so offended the community they lived in that the
entire board was replaced with those who immediately
rescinded the teaching of the non-scientific "intelligent
design"? If only several of the board members had been
replaced that would not have been a strong indication of
anything - but since the entire school board was replaced it
pretty much shows that the voters in that school district
were offended by what the previous school board was doing.

No woman is ever forced by the law to have an abortion. All
liberals want is that it continue to be a legal option for
women. There is absolutely no sense in which a liberal would
ever demand that a woman have an abortion under any legal
provisio - although in the case of right-wing religious
nutters it certainly might save problems for society at
large if there were fewer babies bon to right-wing religious
nutters who might fall under the influence of such twisted
thinking.

There is no such thing as a "definition" of marriage. There
are only broadly accepted societal conventions. Conventions
change over time. In the not so recent past a wife was
legally considered the chattel of the husband. Additionally,
in times past, women often didn't have the choice of who
they would marry because they were the chattel of their
father who could force them into a marriage and the woman
had no recourse except suicide. Both of these things were
considered normative marital practices in times past.
Luckily in most parts of the world neither is true any
longer. So the very concept of marriage has changed over a
long period of time and you are merely clinging to a concept
that in this time and place there simply shouldn't be any
further change simply because you say so and no one is
allowed to challenge your misbegotten beliefs. My experience
has been that there is no sense in which gay marriage has
diminished any aspect of my life and I don't feel any threat
from such unions on any level. I especially am not offended
that such unions might convey certain legal rights and fail
to see how the allowance of such rights will harm me in any way.

In the end, the things that border on the deranged are
people who have such a hatred of other people and want to
force them to comply with xtian standards. Quite obviously
the xtians simply fail to see that they are doing far more
harm then good by their bigotry and narrow-mindedness.

Mike, I don't belong to the White Anglo Saxon Protestant Republican
American Male Church of What We Think God Should Be, however I fully
support your right to believe anything you wish to believe, as far as
monitoring goes, I am being monitored by the NSA because I don't have
a picture of the Anti-Christ on my wall and pray to it daily. So I
feel you ..brother...being castigated for what you believe is a bummer
and some might say Anti-American. How about you? Do you feel the same

If the NSA is monitoring you I'd say you'd better get off the phone with Al
Qaeda. Collaborating with terrorists who want to kill Americans is patently
un-American. A belief you have no right to I'm afraid, and if we catch you
doing it we're going to throw you in prison.

And what is it that you think I wish to believe? Why is it when one defends
someone's right to their opinions and finds the left's attempts to shut them
up abhorrent you automatically agree with what has been said? And if you
think that believing god is active in the affairs of man is somehow white
I'd suggest you attend a black church sometime. If I didn't know better I'd
think your comments might be racist.

I think for Ward Churchill's prominence, plenty is being said about
him. He's just a college professor. Pat Robertson has his OWN TV
CHANNEL, and he regularly says GOD TOLD HIM THINGS.

If you claim to be a prophet, you better be above reproach, and the

come from God.

Read what he's written. He doesn't teach people to hate America. Not
that I can see. He does seem to want America to treat other people
better.

Pat Robertson is a crazed hateful LOON. No normal person would ever
defend him and his lying hypocrisy.
Yet the left jumped through hoops defending Ward Churchill's opinions.
Both individuals look to be about equal on the extreme meter
concerning their positions.
Funny thing about it is if it weren't for the left bitching about him
all the time I would rarely hear anything at all about Robertson.

You tell me, Flannigan, what the biblical context was for the coal
miners deaths this week? Maybe God isn't happy with the Bush-Cheney
energy policy that is destroying His creations on Earth? Could God be
punishing those miners and their families for supporting the oxymoron
"clean coal"?

No, of course not, because Pat Robertson probably has stock in Big
Coal, and Exxon Mobil, and Halliburton.
And have you looked in the mirror lately?
Has Robertson? Have you?:

When Pat Robertson said God struck Sharon down for giving away Israeli
land he didn't happen to mention that he, too, might not be alive much
longer because the Israeli government is planning to give up a large
slice of land to American Christian evangelicals to build a biblical
theme park by the Sea of Galilee, did he?

A consortium of Christian groups, led by the television evangelist Pat
Robertson, is in negotiation with the Israeli ministry of tourism and a
deal is expected in the coming months.

The difference is that I don't feel threatened by Robertson expressing his
opinions. Liberals do.
Now you know what's in all liberals' hearts.

As a liberal, I know many liberals who laugh at Robertson and dismiss
him as a demented fool. Aside from voting, they're not politically
active. They aren't savvy to the political machine that Robertson and
others in the conservative Christian movement have built from money
they've been able to get as a result of a free ride on the public's air
waves. American citizens can't get C-Span, which broadcasts House and
Senate sessions, for free, but they can get hour after hour of Pat
Robertson and other Christian broadcasting on their televisions for
absolutely nothing.

Public air waves, Flannigan. They get to use them, for nothing, so
that they can bilk the public for money. It's quite the scam.

It was bad enough when they were using the money to live lavishly and
giving lip service only to charitable endeavors for those in need. But
then they turned their sights to politics, to government. To impose
their beliefs, their morality, on the citizens of a secular nation.

What's the harm? You've already said that you don't believe in God.
Do you believe that that's the only thing that separates you from them?
Are there other values that they have that you don't? Are there
citizens who worship other religions in the U.S., who don't share the
values of these Christians? Are there moral, law-abiding, upstanding
atheist citizens who don't share the values of these Christians?

Here's one example for you that I've got a problem with:

Ministers Say They Blessed Seats Ahead of Alito Hearing
By JUNE KRONHOLZ
Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

January 5, 2006 7:20 p.m.
WASHINGTON -- Insisting that God "certainly needs to be involved" in
the Supreme Court confirmation process, three Christian ministers today
blessed the doors of the hearing room where Senate Judiciary Committee
members will begin considering the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito on
Monday.

Capitol Hill police barred them from entering the room to continue what
they called a consecration service. But in a bit of one-upsmanship, the
three announced that they had let themselves in a day earlier, touching
holy oil to the seats where Judge Alito, the senators, witnesses,
Senate staffers and the press will sit, and praying for each of the 13
committee members by name.

"We did adequately apply oil to all the seats," said the Rev. Rob
Schenck, who identified himself as an evangelical Christian and as
president of the National Clergy Council in Washington.

Rev. Schenck called the consecration service the kick-off in a series
of prayer meetings that will continue throughout the confirmation
hearing.

Capitol Hill police said they weren't aware that the three had entered
the hearing room earlier, but added that hearing rooms typically aren't
locked because "they're not of interest to anyone." Lt. Dominick Costa
said the Judiciary Committee room will be swept for bombs and perhaps
for electronic bugging equipment before the hearing begins.

The three ministers insisted they weren't taking sides in the Alito
debate. "This is not a pro-Alito prayer," insisted the Rev. Patrick
Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition. With abortion,
public prayer, gay marriage and right-to-life issues among those
topping public debate, however, "God...is interested in what goes on"
in the nomination hearing, Rev. Schenck said.

The two men, along with Grace Nwachukwu, general manager of a group
called Faith and Action, read three Psalms outside the committee room,
knelt to say the Lord's Prayer and marked a cross in oil on the
committee door before leaving.

Rev. Schenck said he and Rev. Mahoney had blessed the same room before
hearings for Chief Justice John Roberts last year. That hearing "went
very well," Rev. Schenck said.

It's easy to try to dismiss these people as wingnuts, harmless cranks
and kooks, but one of them became the U.S. Attorney General. Who can
forget the time that Ashcroft draped the statue of Venus at the DOJ,
covered up the titties? Big deal, you say, when he's gone you can take
the drapes off. Not like when the Taliban blew up the Buddhas (graven
idols), this is just temporary.

Not actually. Their way of thinking affects how they think the
government works and how all Americans should live.

As Attorney General, Ashcroft diverted FBI officers (a team of 8) to
open up an investigation into legal pornography. This team, the
"anti-obscenity squad," is still at it. When they could be working on
terrorism, or child pornography, or any kind of crime that is already
on the books, they're spending taxpayer money looking to make legal
pornography illegal.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/19/AR2005091901570.html

John Ashcroft actually had himself anointed the night before he was
sworn in as AG. With Crisco(tm) oil, because he/they (his followers?)
couldn't find "holy" oil?

When you hear God speaking, to you, and nobody else can, and God is
telling you to do things which in order to do you must not only change
the law of the land in a democratic republic, but you have to break
rules and laws in order to accomplish, you don't give this guy free
access to a microphone that has been paid for by the American people.

war-ravaged impoverished people with some title history in the land so
that they may build shelter, grow food, and have a life?

Your value system is warped, Flannigan.

But that's ok. This is America, and you can value any thing that you

First of all we hate him because he is an obnoxious
religious nutter. Anyone who makes statements that someone
who has a stroke received it from the wrath of god is not a
person who has high moral character.

It is also amazing that such a person is so wealthy while
the people who send him money often can't even afford their

flinch from taking such money.

I am terrified of him for the same reason I would be

Christians who believe in the bible are heretics and will burn in hell?
Christians who don't actually follow the teachings of Christ, actually.
You must mean that the son of god taught against the way the old man handled
things. Does that mean Christ was a heretic?

What? Jesus Christ was authorized to teach against gods own actions, while
Robertson is going to hell for daring to suggest that god is active in the
modern world? Damn Welch, if I didn't know any better, I'd think you were
one of those crazy Christians.

Besides, I don't take what Robertson says as him thinking that he speaks for
god, but mere speculation on the biblical links to modern events. Oddly
entertaining, kind of like listening to Art Bell.

Because heretics and their followers will burn in hell
Except that there is no such thing as hell. Just another
xtian delusion that they needed so that they can consign
their enemies to that place.

Xtians aren't even consistant. They talk about love and yet
all they have is hatred for those who don't believe exactly
as they do.

Chrisitanity is not confined to the borders of the United States of
America. It was not born here it was brought here, and it remains a
pert of life in most parts of the world.

The First Commandment of the Ten Commandments says that "Thou Shalt
Not Take The Name Of Thy Lord Thy God In Vain" . Now we have a faction
of Christianity that is separate and distinct from the rest of the
world.

On the eve of this illegal and immoral war of choice (Where is Osama)
that we were sold on with lies, and half-thruths, the entire world
joined an anti-war protest that was comprised principally of
Christians.

Christianity is a religion of inclusiveness, not exclusive to any
particular political idiology. Many would say that Jesus Christ was
the perfect example of Liberalism.

To cleve unto yourself the sole right to worship God, to insist that
you and you alone speak for God, to separate yourself from humanity as
you have, is a grave and mortal sin.

To use God as your last remaining argument when reason and logic have
failed you, to invoke God and wrap yourself in the flag as you
fraudently install a fascist government for corporate masters, is
heresy by using His name in vain.

Perhaps you republiCONs should start your own churh "The White Anglo
Saxon American Male Republican Church of What We Think God Should Be".

Jonestown is still available, hell I'll buy you the Kool-Aid.

Because extremist left-wing groups like People for the un-American Way spend
so much time and effort monitoring and mulling over every utterance he makes
in an effort to discredit him. Why do they care so much? Why are they so
afraid of a private citizen who holds no public office expressing his

Nonsense. The thing that gives him prominence
is the size of the television audience that the

is to pull in more contributions.

"CHRISTIAN television evangelist Pat Robertson and the president of Iran,
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, have a well-established affinity for the outrageous. This
time their mutual embrace of indecency places them in a category all to
themselves. As Ariel Sharon lies hospitalized and critically incapacitated by a
massive stroke, Mr. Robertson, one of America's best-known religious extremists,
and his Iranian counterpart -- no slouch when it comes to religious demagoguery
-- suggested that Israel's prime minister had it coming. Speaking on his TV
show, "The 700 Club," on the Christian Broadcasting Network, Mr. Robertson said
the Bible "makes it very clear that God has enmity against those who 'divide my
land.' "....

Pat Robertson and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are probably beyond the point where they
can be reached by embarrassment or shame. But they are not beyond the kind of
strong condemnation that they have richly earned. We need not recite the records
of contemptible remarks made by both men in the past. There is little reason to
believe that either will cease his disgraceful behavior. Mr. Ahmadinejad, the
president of a country with a lamentable human rights record and a nuclear

The Washington Post is a decidedly left-wing publication. As exhibited by
the fact that they found it within them to make the comparison between
someone who openly hoped for Sharon's death and someone who attempted to
explain his condition by applying biblical principles.
